In January 1995 I visited my brother Kent who was at the time working at Olympic National Park in Washington state. While I was there we spent a couple of days in Seattle, sampling its unique culture and the beers at all of the local brewpubs. Kent wanted to buy a Darwin fish to put on the back of his car, so at each store we stopped at, he would inquire as to where he could buy one. We had surprisingly little luck for most of the day. I didn't think that they would be that hard to find.
At the time, I was an active Magic The Gathering player, or at least collector, and we stopped at several shops trying to buy what remained of the 3rd Edition packs. One of the stores we finally stopped at was VisionX, which did not look much like a game store. They primarily sold imported clothing, and some head gear if I remember correctly, but they did have a small selection of games including Magic boosters. Kent asked the people working there if either of them knew where he might be able to get a Darwin fish. The first young woman said no, but turned to the other who said that she heard that there was a place that sold them. She could not remember the name exactly but said that it something like The Sexual Pastry Shop and that it was probably somewhere along 45th Street. We bought a couple of packs of cards and headed out for the next stage of our quest.
We drove up to 45th and randomly picked a direction. We drove for what seemed like blocks and blocks and blocks (ah, that's another story) but was probably much less as we examined each storefront that we passed. Finally we came across a place called The Erotic Bakery and we simultaneously exclaimed, "That must be it!" We pulled into the parking lot and they did indeed have Darwin fish, but more importantly they also sold quite a variety of custom decorated cakes that would not be out of place at a bachelor/bachelorette party. For me it gave new meaning to the cliché of a girl coming out of the cake. Their display contained a selection of cakes decorated with selected body parts, bodies in various states of undress and in more or less exotic poses, and couples, all made out of frosting. It was way cool. I actually ordered one for Kent for his and his wife's Jack and Jill party. If you happen to be in the area, I would highly recommend a visit.

In putting together this account, I asked Kent for his recollections of the quest, but he couldn't recall much. I then asked him more specific questions to try to jog his memory but he replied, "Man, like I said earlier, I don't remember much of it at all......." Then again, we still haven't found his brain...
